Default No passenger low beam - fuse & bulb fine

Bit of a strange one....
Had the passenger low beam blow this morning. Nothing unusual about that, changed the bulb and no Bueno. Tried another known good bulb and still no joy.
Checked fuses and all good.

Left it at that, stuck a known good bulb in it and parked the car up....but when starting the car the passenger low beam will light for a fraction of a second so it is definitely getting power for a bit.

Is the "brain" shutting it off for some reason? Does the lighting on the xc90 have it's own separate module?

Thanks,
Anton

You don't state the year or spec, but of applicable first try swapping the ballast from one headlamp to another and see if the problem stays or swaps sides.

My apologies gents, specs would be helpful...

It is a 2004 XC90 d5.
Halogen headlamps so no ballasts.
Replacement bulbs are confirmed good and fuses are all intact.

Likely bad relay in CEM, easy to replace in that year XC90. the relays are plugged in.

it depends on which cem is fitted the removeable shunts are only on the early cars latter ones are on the inside of the cem which require specialist repair . try the connector first is a free option

either of the 2 large multi pin connectors which plug into the cem or try swaping the headlight shunts if your car has them . you will need to find out which type your car has or take it to a good independant volvo garage this problem also occurs on v70 and s60 cars its quite common
