V40 D3 09/2015 - Weird noise and vibration (Video for sound)
Hello,
Sadly I come here asking for help because something is wrong with my baby, which is a 09/2015 V40 D3 with 91k km's. There were these wierd noises and vibrations in the car when releasing the gas pedal at low RPM's (1st and 2nd gear mostly) and then, surprinsingly the engine became quite again and the noise didn't happen again for a few days (I only ever do light driving every once in a while- yes I know this is bad in a diesel) Now yesterday the noise kind of reappeared but it's different: Constant clatterering intune with the usual diesel noise that is most noticeable the lower gear you are but also kind of heard in neutral(sound gone/dampened by holding the clutch pressed and an intermittent whirring noise when accelerating(that lasted for 20 seconds then stopped completely) What is it? The clutch has decent bite and is working fine so it doesnt seem like it's the problem to me but I dont know I'm not a mechanic. The video(Can be perfectly heard at 0:37): https://youtube.com/shorts/x4IDFx29HBQ?feature=share Please help me figure this out, Thanks in advance |

I'm completely new to Volvo, but going by my experience with other brands, this sounds like a dual mass flywheel breaking up.
Other symptoms can be vibration through the clutch pedal, sudden changes to the bite point on the clutch pedal, and eventually, starting problems as the starter motor engages with the flywheel to start the engine. |
