2 x gas lift roof mounted cycle carriers
I have two of the very usefull gas lift cycle carriers available.
Only looking to selll as a pair. These are over £220 each from Volvo. Excellent contition as only used for one trip to france. Makes loading bikes onto the top of an XC90 very easy. They were actually bought from Honda but are exactly the same as the volvo ones and are un badged. http://www.volvocars.com/us/all-cars...4-874b330fb9f0 Offer invited for the pair. pm or 07816 238019 |

Andymuggwump,
The photo on the link isn't too clear - are the cycle carrier and the lift mechanism seperate items? |

The arm that secures the bike is detachable from the carrier when the bike is not on the car.

gas spring cycle carrier

I have two of these that I recently bought used but in as new condition with very little use. I have tried to get the lifting arm to lift up/open out but even following the Volvo instruction manual I can not fold them out. With excessive force I can lift the arm maybe 50mm but no more, it is as if the mechanism is locked. The previous owner assures me they worked fine but he has not used them for a few years, could the gas struts have seized? In highlighted text in the Volvo manual in the section refering to folding the arm away after use it makes reference to releasing them with "the red plate" and then a section which does not translate correctly saying " if the lever (arm) does not release with the red plate, the lever will spring back under considerable tension. necessary" I wonder if this is where mine are now and the text means considerable force is required to put them back to the normal operating position? I have tried the manufacturer Atera in Germany who referred me to Volvo. My Volvo dealer and Volvo Technical can not help as they say that if the units had been under warranty they would just send them back to Atera. I apologise if this weakens your chance of a sale of your units but I would be most grateful if you can shed any light on why my units do not work Regards David |
