Default 340 PAS modification

Hi All,

I understand both from other sources and from other messages within this forum, that the PAS steering rack, pump, reservoir etc from a 360 can be used on a 340.

Can someone confirm that this is the case ?

I have carried out a PAS mod to an Astra and ended up in this case drilling and tapping bosses on the block to support the pump. At the end of the day it all works well, and all of the bits were from another Astra variant.

It would be nice to do something similar with the 340.

Regards

You mean me ;)

The main problem with the 360 > 340 PAS kit conversion is mounting the pump - the brackets are different. The aftermarket kits (well..the one I have anyway) appear to use a 360 rack....which is why I didn't take it - 360 racks are common as muck!

cheers

James

O.K. Could I just summarise what I need to know.
Perhaps you could cut and paste this into your reply and put your replies in the gaps.

------> The 360 Rack fits on a 340 O.K.?

------> The 360 pump is O.K. but its a question of the mounting brackets?

------> Presumably the reservoir and pipes are O.K.?

------> What about the double pulley for driving the pas pump, is this 360 derived and will it fit onto my 1400 in place of the original pulley ?

Mounting brackets are not a problem since I can fabricate most things.

Perhaps if a few of you want to do this I could manufacture some.

Anyone know the best people to contact for the above spares ?

Regards to you all

Dave

As far as I know. The 340 with the 'Steering Developments' kit appeared to have a 360 rack - they looked exactly the same anyway.

Yes

>------> Presumably the reservoir and pipes are O.K.?

Yes...but mounting the reservior may be a (very minor) point.

No. The kit I have has a double pulley, but the 360 has a triple one. I doubt the fitment is the same, but I guess it is worth a try. Try looking at 1.4 Renault 5s (etc) for double pulleys. Many of the parts (like the pump) for the SD kit I have are supposed to be sourced from a Morris Marina - maybe worth investigating?

cheers,

James

Many Thanks James that really helps.

I presume that the drive for the pump comes off the crank pulley ?

I have mentioned the Astra change I made. In this case I welded a second pulley to the original crank pulley which worked out very well.

Although the Astra model I fitted it to had never had pas as an add on, the body was ready to take it even down to appropriate drillings for reservoir and clip mounts.

Do we know if anyone has a picture of a 360 with the PAS shown.

All good fun. I shall be ordering the parts tomorrow.

Didn't someone say you were selling yours ?

Regards

Hi Dave,

Yes, it comes off the crank pulley on both (360 and Steering Dev kit).

I can take pics of the 360 setup if you want...what angles do you need?

cheers

James
