Default Amazon B20 Rocker Cover 1969

Hi.

Does anyone have a good rocker cover for sale for my 1969 amazon? The cap flange is damaged over the years and leaks oil at pressure ( and I know that there is probably a bit excessive crankcase pressure) Thanks Brian

The valve cover shouldn't be under any pressure at all so leaks shouldn't be caused by that. Take the cap to pieces and wash everything out. You can get new rubber seal rings. If the cap is a bit loose, it should fell a bit stiff and then seat properly at the stop point, you can bend the 2 small tabs a bit to tighten everything up. Someone would have had to be pretty brutal to distort the hole in the cover but tapping it down onto a block of wood would sort that out easily I would have though. If the rubber ring is OK the job has cost nothing. Leaks round the cover/head joint not hard to fix either.

I've got good used valve covers but as others have pointed out, a bit of hand work and/or new gaskets will solve 99% of the issues with those.

As others allready have pointed out - unless directly on purpose damaged - they never really go bad - other than people over-tighten the 4 screws - and thereby deforming the seal-edge a bit.

If you allready know - why not then try to release the engine from the excessive pressure? Often oil-spills (from rocker cover or crank-seals) is coursed by a un-breathable engine - wash-, blow- and clean-out your crankcase vent - (the flametrap on the left side of the engine) - do it thorough..

Is your oil filler cap the right one for your engine setup? Does it ventilate? A lot of people find a nice good looking chrome cap from the 240 series - and they throw out the original - but not many knows that the 240 cap is unvented - and the B18/20 caps are vented..

As Derek descripes - and I continue - Try to thoroughly clean your engines breathing-holes..
