Hi folks,
Does anyone know if it is possible to fit heating pads to a 2002 S80? It has leather seats and I'd like to get the seats heated using something similar (or the same) as the factory-original heated seats. I'm not keen on the 'lay on top' seat pads that I've seen. Thanks in advance. Jas |

Hi Jas,
You will probaly find that the heaters and all wiring is already fitted and all it needs is the switches and possible a relay. to plug in. Volvo usuall fit it all as standard as it's cheaper just to make all models the same and just fit switches if the mug who's buying it stumps up loads more money. Take out the blanks where the switches go and see if you can see any spare plugs on the end of wires. Check under the seats for wiring,it may be disconnected and tied up out of the way. Vaughan |

I'm afraid it won't be quite so easy! I very much doubt the heating pads are in place, however are not terribly difficult to fit (I replaced mine on a 760, involves taking the seat out of the car), though the pads are not cheap.
The power will be applied through relays and thermostats, all controlled by a switch, yes, but one that is controlled through the computerised power bus system. Also, the power is regulated through a software ajustable setting to determine what temperature you want your seat to get to. I recommend you don't attempt it, other than fitting pads and installing a completly new/seperate switch somewhere, controlling a relay. Sorry if this sounds rather complicated, but the latest Volvo's are not the same as the early models (at least as far as most of the electrics). Paul VOC S80 Register Keeper |

I am talking from experiance here so believe me it isn't possible, yeah all the wiring is there and there is a blank that can be removed to put the switchs in but they won't work.
All the car is controlled by the CEM (central electroic module) and there is other modules in the car that work with it to control differant things. Everytime something is added to the car say foglights the wiring is there all you do is fit the lamps put the switch in and a couple of fuses. The foglight switch can be pressed but they won't work cos the CEM doesn't reconize the signal cos its not been programmed to say it has them. The same is true with the heated seats but unlike the fogs there is no software available to programme the CEM to say it has them so they won't work even if fitted. |

Oh well that's a real shame.
I suppose I could just hide a little blankie-type thing in the pocket in the front of the seat and use that under me till my cold bits warm up! Thanks for the info. |
