camshaft position sensor
my code reader says I need a new one, my EML is on.
Is the camshaft position sensor easy to get to? I'm not sure where it is. From a quick google search they look expensive new, about £175. Maybe that is why the lit EML has been an advisory on the MOT history for the last 6 years (I've only just bought the car)!

That happened to mine. I got a replacement from PFV, can't remember how much but it wasn't too bad. Easy to replace, it's on the left hand side of the engine (as you sit in the car) at the end of the rear (exhaust) camshaft. You don't say what car you have, but if yours has a conventional distributor, then the dizzy on on the end of the front (inlet) camshaft, and the cam sensor on the end of the rear camshaft.

Hi Alpine
As Luxobarge says, at battery end of engine, on exhaust camshaft (towards rear of engine). Believe part number is 9146108 various brands available on ebay at various prices I think I have had one 1998 V70 T5 which wouldn't start at all and the fix was a new camshaft sensor. Another V70 1999 was in severe limp mode and the fix was a new camshaft sensor. Held in place by two Torx bolts. Just be careful not to pinch the cable when you put it back together. HTH Steve

I've managed to buy a second hand sensor off eBay for £12, but before I remove the airbox to get to it, does anyone know what size torx screw holds the sensor in? I want to make sure I have a torx bit big enough before I start doing it.

Be careful of the PCV piping in that area when you change it. Mine was virtually directly overhead of the cam sensor and the it's not very moveable. PCV tubing can break easily.
