Default Attempted Cat Theft

So in broad daylight a gang were caught in the works car park having jacked my car up, attempting a theft. The security guard interrupted them and got the number of the van they were in. Police asked me if I wanna prosecute - you betcha! They didn't get the cat, but did damage and it's making a bit of a racket. I shall go all the way with this and nail them to the f.ucking wall if it's at all possible. Fingers crossed the reg they got isn't stolen..

They'll be displaying cloned, stolen or false plates.

Absolute b-stards. As said above the van will either be on cloned plates or not registered to the current owner. The police will be no bloody use either because it’s not an easy nick, can’t prove who was there blah blah and so involves paperwork therefore effort will be minimal sadly.

Sorry for sounding negative but I think it’s the most realistic outcome.

Gutted for you. F-ckers want stringing up and beating.

Being an older cat I think they have a greater value? Also read somewhere that somebody wit an 'R' had re-badged the tailgate with 'D5' lettering, they won't go near it then.

To be fair to the cops, they'll be no use because with the thieves car on cloned/false/stolen plates, and with the undersides of cars being dirty and not conducive to fingerprint recovery, they simply have no avenues of investigation.

Someone in the background will do a bit of work in slow time with ANPR to try and identify the point where the thieves change the plate and it drops off the camera, see if the can figure out the real plate if they put it on. However, they're not daft and will probably use yet another set of dodgy plates and thus make themselves impossible to identify and track (daughter is a cop, she tells me thats how it usually goes down with cat theft).

They're cops, not clairvoyants.

To be fair I'm done with the hassle of it all. I'll likely bin the car in the local scrapy and buy a Transit Connect as a runabout. I'll see what happens but defo off old Volvo ownership.

There is a lot of it about at the moment - our local police sent out a warning message on FB a few weeks ago urging people to park somewhere well lit, putting the car against a wall to make access harder etc.

As said above, identifying and catching the scumbags is going to be very difficult. As ever, the punishment even if they were caught, is hardly enough to deter most - and the rewards can be substantial

Its a shame that it is discouraging you from classic car ownership. Hopefully after the shock and anger has subsided you'll reconsider.

The problem is I use it as a reasonably regular daily. Not really a good idea, it ideally needs to be a Summer driver which I don't have the space for storage.

It's my understanding , the original cat was over-heavy in precious-metals, you'll be able to get a replacement (with far less goodies in it) for appreciably less.

Still won't sort the hassle of mating it all up, but helps.

I have an existing 3" downpipe with 200 cel cat that was utterly kak. I've decided to put that back on but cut out the 200 cel and stitch weld a 400 cel in it's place. Meantime, I myself will weigh in my original cat and reap the benefits...
