1.6 diesel Drive (2010) starts and turns off in few seconds
Hi All,
My Volvo S40 1.6 Diesel Drive started 3 weeks ago turning off after few seconds that it started. Trying to start again, after 7 seconds trying to turno on it started again, now it is not doing. It starts for 5 seconds and turns off. Every attempt to restart does not work. I have taken the car to two specialists and i have not solved. The first changed the diesel filter and the second cleaned it. Every time i have given the car back it worked, the morning after it did not work. Had anyone the same issue? In April the garage changed the low pressure fuel pump and after 3 months i had the issue. Thanks, Frederick |

I've found main dealers, any marque, great at diagnostics provided they can get some codes when they plug in. If there aren't any, maybe not so good? Their mechanics can be parts fitters rather than motor engineers. And the good ones with really extensive experience of a marque, tend to leave and set up as indys. The other 'specialists' who tend to know what they are doing. I have one near me that has specialised in Volvos for the past 30 years. Do they know what they are doing ....... erm, I think so. So I use them and/or my local Volvo dealer depending, using my vast experience. Apologies Frederick, not really helping with your issue.

When i say the only "specialists " are the dealers is because the dealers have a constant stream of cars coming in with similar problems and therefore experience leads them to the problem and a fix .They have a comprehensive list of known problems and fixes , They can submit full details of the problem ,also they have direct contact with their help desk and therefore the factory which leads to all the other dealers in the world to share fixes with . They have to be bang up to date with this new technology so are on training courses two or three times or more a year . They also have to buy all the special tools and some of which are vital to do a job . Independents are allowed to attend the training courses and have the equipment , but it is very expensive so might not be worthwhile for them . Some independents are as good as a dealer of course , and if so can gain volvo authorised workshop status but they are very few and far between . In my long experience there is a big gap between a "specialist" and an Independant ... Having technicians with 20 years experience working for a dealer is often advertised by a specialist or Independant however it means nothing with this new generation of volvos ..unless they are bang up to date and paying for the latest training . even then they won't yet have the latest cars coming in to use the knowledge on .
