Default Scandalous Sat Nav upgrade

The Sat Nav (Nav Tech) in my S80 got me lost the other day because of new road systems so I thought to get an upgrade DVD from the Stealers. Thats all I want -- a DVD which is a later version than 2002.

200 quid I was quoted from my stealer.
Blimey I can buy a whole new Garmin system for less than that . I know that research and technology costs but hey 200 quid.
Can I get it any cheaper?

My local branch of Asda was selling Sat Nav systems for £99 last month. - Don't know make or spec, but they soon sold & to think I paid £560 for our TOM TOM GO when they first came out.........Shocking!

I bought a road atlas in 1994 for £2.99 and haven't needed to upgrade yet.

I see the 2007 model is in the shops but it's £4 - far too much money!

Ah well you see I can't read a map! Many years ago (pre sat nav) I had a huge row with my husband which made me pack my bags & take the car (Percy Punto) I got this insane idea that I would drive to my friends house in Southampton from Newcastle upon Tyne. I just got on the A1 & headed South, & eventually ended up in London!!!!! Deciding that I was lost, tried to read the road map & then ended up in ruddy Bristol. After spending the night in a Travelodge Carpark freezing my tits off trying to sleep in the car, the following morning, I drove home by following the signs that said "The North", got home, made up with hubby & threw the said map in the bin. - Never Again!

Talking Going South

Now that takes me back many years more than I wish to be reminded of.

Having just bought my first car (Split Screen Ser. ll Morris Minor) I decided to go home for the weekend. I was in Edinburgh and my parents lived in London but I was young and ????

Friday evening, having reached somewhere near Newcastle I pulled into a petrol station and asked for a map of England. They didn't have one but a lorry driver said 'just get on the A1 and keep going'. I did and managed to arrive in The City (of London) in the early hours of Saturday. The only problem was that my parents lived in the outskirts and I had no idea how to get there by road as I had always travelled by Underground Train. After driving around for some time I managed to get my bearings and arrived home but after driving a Morris Minor for 600 miles I couldn't stand up straight when I got out of the car!

Many years later I did a similar run (London to Glasgow and back) in a Volvo 265. I know which car I would choose again.
