Default V60 Polestar potential new owner

Hi all,

I have been away from Volvos for a while, Did have a Modern V40 in Rebel Blue and then moved to an Xc60 when the kids came along. But since 2016 i have been in mostly Audi’s or Vw’s. Currently in a mk7.5 Golf Gti. I have have always been a massive fan of the V60 Polestar.

I am always on the look out for one. But would like all you current owners what are like to live with as a daily. What issues are you getting now they are a couple of years old. Are they expensive to maintain and service and what things to look out for when buying one. What is the auto box like to drive and what people would consider as a must have option.

Thanks in advance

Have owned my 2017 2.0 4cyl polestar for 3 years now. No major reliability issues but some parts are expensive . Although the earlier 6 cylinder models may be better on spares prices but are not as quick . The brembo 371mm front discs on the 2.0 4cyl are around £1200 a pair from main dealer .Having said that the brakes are awesome, as is the performance. Mine has the 8 speed auto with sports mode , launch control, and flappy paddles . And when in sports mode it opens the exhaust valve , which makes it fairly loud , also pop and bang on gear changes like a rally car (great fun) . The ride is sporty but not too harsh , and is adjustable as it's fitted with the ohlins suspension. Quick? . Yes very, varies from "HANG ON" to "HYPERDRIVE" to quote my son . Also returns about 30mpg around town & 35mpg on a good run. Not too bad for a car of this performance .

Thanks for the reply.

What year did they change to the 2.0L, so I am guessing that checking the life left in the brakes is a must to avoid having to shell out. Whats the tax and insurance like.

Do they come in a manual, i thought they were all auto as standard? A would love a rebel blue one but they are really hard to find. My current car is black and would never have another black car again so that leaves silver or white I believe?

I suppose i may have timed my hunt wrongly now that car prices are so inflated and interest rates are much higher than they were

I think the change to the 2.0l 4cyl model was 2016. As for the brake disc prices I may convert back to the earlier polestar brakes which are a sensible price . The insurance & road tax is about the same as my old V70R AWD except for the premium on the first four years tax because it cost more than 40,000 when new . I wanted the 6cyl in rebel blue , but couldn't find one with a low mileage when i spotted the 2.0l at 3 yrs old with 23,000 mls and full dealer history .Was in immaculate condition and looked good in black metallic. Have been very happy with it , and am lucky to have a local indy volvo specialist who service it for a sensible price (using the correct castrol edge titanium oil) which the main dealer did not . Unfortunately had to take it to a main dealer for my first service (warranty requirement) . Never again! they think of a number between 10 & 20, multiply by the number of days in the month that you book it in , then add 200 because its a polestar .

I have been looking at a couple, white seems to be the only colour up for sale currently apart from black but i would never own another black car, too hard to keep clean. but the trade in offers i am being offered fro my GTI are ridiculously low so sort of stuck at an impasse unless i hang on a bit longer for the volvos to come down a bit more.

do you mind me asking what you think is a sensible price to pay for a 2017 with 40000miles on the clock? any help in understanding what the values should be will help me when deciding if its a good deal or not.

£25-27k.

Although there is a 2018 Black one with 20,000m at £32k that looks tasty.

What about a Japanese import? I see a Rebel Blue one in Hokaido.

Disclaimer: I've no experience with either vehicle nor import process so do your own research.

Have a 3.0l 2015 Polestar as my daily - but only do about 5-6k a year. Around town drinks like George Best, but the noise on a run makes up for it! Doing lot of motorway miles and getting about 29-30 on a run lately.

Brakes are costly but last a reasonable time, rear pads are costly as well (£300!) but standard discs there. Ohlins shocks can go, had to replace my fronts at about 42k but dealer and volvo aided on the cost there as completely corroded at the top.

The 3.0l are better as they age with less issues - the 2.0l have issues with either supercharger or turbo from about 70-80k miles. Very good facebook groups to assist on them - both a UK group and an international one.

Nothing else out there I'd realisticly I'd want to swap it for - they handle so well and rare.
