Default Disconnecting battery

Can anybody tell me if it's ok to disconnect the battery for prolonged period (e.g. overnight for charging)? The car is V70 D5 2009.
Thanks.

No reason why you can't disconnect it for any period of time mate

Thanks, I was in doubt after some contradicting opinions on the net like 'on modern cars some important codes may be lost' etc.
Anyway, I found the battery completely flat with only 8V. The voltage recovered a bit after I disconnected the negative lead. I have current drain of ca. 2A and can't locate it. Tried removing fuses one by one to no avail....

There is a chance that you could lose the radio code but that'll be in your handbook in fact I'm not even sure that Volvos have coded radios. Your ecu etc will be fine with a disconnected battery. Your drain I can't really help you with mate could be anything from a light being left on somewhere to your a/c compressor not shutting off when you turn the engine off sorry to not be of any more help mate

Alternator shot? If the capacitor (iirc) goes, it allows it to drain even when off? Sketchy memory - been a while since I did an alternator!

The saga continues...
In fact I found one fuse in the end that made the current draw drop from 2A to 1A, which is still too high. It's the 10A fuse 'RTI and park camera'.
I put the battery on the charger for a few hours today before attempting a jump start. The car made the usual noises but didn't start. A message came up 'bonnet open'... Now the battery is back on the charger overnight...

The funny thing is that the car was perfect before I went for the free summer check at the dealer last Thursday. I parked the car on Fri after work as usual and it would not start on Monday morning. I am booked again to let them look at it this Saturday.

Could be that your battery is completely toasted mate. Cars do funny things with knackered batteries

Default Sorted with a new battery

Hi guys,
In the end I went and shelled out for a new battery, after the car failed to start on the old re-charged battery.
All seems perfect again! No more current drain either!
Seems the battery had some sort of internal short...

Cheers.
