Default 2.3 T5 Emissions

Does anyone know why the 2.3 T5 manual emissions (222g/km) would be lower than the Geartronic (240g/km)?

Both are Euro 3 engines, yet the Geartronic is not ULEZ compliant, whereas the manual is.

I wondered if I got a conformity certificate from Volvo, would it state the same or that both are 222g/km? If it is the lower value, I can request a change from TFL to make the car ULEZ compliant.

My “best guess” would be because the auto does fewer mpg than a manual, in govt testing or real life, the extra fuel used causes an increase in emissions..seem logical to me..
Cheers Bob

In my understanding, all Euro 4 and later petrol cars are ulez compliant - it is down to the Euro rating and not the specific emissions of a individual car. This creates the bluntly stupid situation where a 2006 Euro 4 Rolls Royce 6 litre is compliant but a 2005 Euro 3 Smart FourTwo with a 600cc engine from a lawn mower is not…

mines euro 3 I believe and also an auto (non turbo and basic slushbox, not geartronic) and is Ulez compliant

I have no idea why though, based on the mpg principle it definitely should not be

my 998cc mini which sips petrol like a posh victorian at a tea party with the queen is non compliant, go figure (although it will be in 5 years when it turns 40) I know, emissions, no CAT etc.. but still

For petrol ULEZ you only have to meet Euro 4 NOx requirements (max 0.08 g/km). That's it - CO2 is not a factor, neither are the other Euro 4 parameters.

https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ult...t-the-standard

Check the V5C and/or get the certificate of conformity from Volvo. Don't be deterred by Euro 3 or CO2 emissions - it is only NOx that counts, and if you can evidence <= 0.08g/km then TfL should change it. (There is plenty of discussion about this on other forums, e.g. owners of Euro 2 Porsches successfully gaining ULEZ compliance because the NOx is low enough.)

I got the CoC from Volvo Customer Support and its 0.082g/km. Do they round down or is this seen as over the required value?

I can submit it as a request to TfL as it does not cost anything, and can hope for the best.

Oh dear, that's a depressing one. I suppose it's worth a try...

Tell me about it. I have left a deposit on this car and have committed to it now.

Deposit was by Paypal and I could potentially just pull out and claim a refund with Paypal if he does not want to return it, but I do actually want the car.
