Default Replacing the Alternator/Generator

The Alternator/Generator on my 58 Plate S60 is getting very noisy after having taken the car through a deep ford over Christmas (and yes it cost me a pair of ballast modules for the lights), so in due course I will need to replace it.
Is this something I can do? If so are there any instructions around?
Are there variants of Alternator that will fit my model?
Does anyone have one for sale?

I would find a local auto electrical repair shop and have the bearings replaced and the output checked. Don't put it off - if it seizes it can throw the timing belt and you will be looking at a new motor.

Got it done locally. I couldn't be a**ed to try myself. I'd forgotten how quiet the car should be

Was tempted to have a go myself as well, I mean what's to know about tapping two bearings in, right? Plus he bench ran it and had probes in places I would never have thought.
Good for another few miles and one less thing to worry about.
