Question Infotainment centre

Upgrading V50 audio system to allow Bluetooth operation of mobile phone/DAB radio feed or even simply a way of connecting a USB flash drive - what are the options?

Bought a 2007 V50 D Sport very recently. Great drive but frustrated at lack of aux input to allow the greater use of it. Shouldn't have allowed myself to like the car and all it's other attributes beforehand and waited until I found one with the options I would like. However I am where I am and my previous motor had a CD/radio unit I fitted myself with a USB input from which I'd listen to podcasts etc when driving around. I can't do that now...

Looking at the recent post elsewhere by Oli74 http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=214534 regarding an upgrade he has undertaken himself it appears this is not uncommon but it looks like he'll be stymied without the VIDA upgrade(?) or Volvo input as it's not an original Volvo upgrade that he's undertaken.

So is that it? Or can these system be upgraded either officially through Volvo support or using a device which acts like a transmitter in your car and simply tune into it on an FM frequency?

Any of your input on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have an '06 S40 Sport and in the same situation. After much research and reading forums, in a nutshell, the options are fitting a 3rd party device, such as a parrot mki9200, pure, FM transmitter etc... there are also DIY jobs of tapping into the FM feed but would need specialist knowledge that I don't posses.

The option I looked into the most was the Dension Gateway 500, but it's pricey and there's fitting on top, so I scrapped that idea as couldn't justify it.

There are other options that you can read yourself if you search this forum.
