Default PNCS Tyres - Query

Morning all,

I've pirelli tyres on my XC90 22" wheels, they are all PNCS with the foam insert, if i get a puncture and have to replace one, does it have to be the same? Or could it be replaced with the non PNCS version?

Punctures in Foam insert tyres can be repaired as long as it is in a safe area the same as any normal tyre, the tyre is removed from the rim and the foam removed from the area of the puncture and then repaired as a normal tyre. The foam can be glued back in place.

The foam is just there for noise deadening, you can replace it with a none foam tyre but it is best to replace both if the tread depth will be significantly different.

As nu11eaf has said, PNCS tyres can be repaired of punctures in the same way as standard tyres. I've had a rear tyre puncture repaired without issue.

Interestingly, I have PNCS 20" Pirellis on my V90 and lost an offside front tyre due to a pothole a couple of years ago and could only source a non-PNCS Pirelli tyre as a replacement. When I had to replace the other side tyre due to a puncture in the sidewall a short while later, I again had a non-PNCS Pirelli tyre fitted.

Was there any noticeable noise difference........absolutely not, makes you wonder why they bothered fitting them as OE except of course they cost more!

When I replaced my so called contisilent tyres for Pirelli Scorpion verde tyres the noise level reduced.
