Radio unlocking
Obviously a technical posting but seeing as there's no general "electrics/audio" section I didn't want to restrict it just to the S40/V40 area for responses.
Basically, we have the code for Jacqs S40 but it appears that someone has tried, in vain, to enter a code without knowing it following recent work when the battery would have been disconnected and out etc, or it just locked due to this. Basically, when you press the power on, the display reads "OFF" , press it again and it goes off, ie blank display. So how do I get it to let me enter the code again? On another forum it was said it needs to sit on the "acc" position on ignition, ie 2 clicks but not start the engine, for 120 mins. In the volvo trucks at work it's similar, but you can put the engine on and 2 hours later it lets you enter the code, thats fine when you do 4 hour runs away up north but a bit of a pain to take a car as uneconomical as Jacqs out for a 2 hour drive just to reset the radio, especially when It's been suggested to me that it must be left not turned on, and probably need a trickle charger on it or it will go flat before the radio resets. as you can see, thats all madness...there must be another way? I will ask at the dealers later as I'm having to take the car down to show them a part on it they say doesn't exist "I've been a volvo mechanic since I was 2 and have never heard of a brake bias valve" wtf? a universal brake componant on many many marques, and we gave him about 5 different names for it. That in mind I'm asking here about the radio as I dont have much faith in them being able to sort that out either lol Ross

Its realy just a case of having power to the radio, and having it display OFF for the set amount of time. It all depends how times the incorrect code has been entered as to how long you have to wait. I think it goes from 30, 60.120 mins. It makes no difference if you drive it or not, but you must not interrupt the power to it or the clock starts all over again.

... and it could be as long as 12 hours, not just 2. I did this once and left the ignition on ACC overnight (12 hours) in order to clear the unit. I was in a safe area in the countryside and not with the car sitting on the road.

yeah I'd box it in the drive if Iwas doing that.
So the long and short of it is, it's a pain in the arse to sort out unless you want to leave it on all night with the keys in. Ross
