Low Fuel Level = Emission Service???
Odd one this. I did a search but nothing came up.
Had the dreadrd Emission Service Light and Yellow engine light come up a couple of weeks ago. Filled it up a day later, all gone. Same thing has happened today, tank at less than 1 qtr, all goes wrong. Fill it up, messages disappear. I purchased a PPC code reader earlier this week and I've checked it now and nothing is stored. Short of driving around until it happens and plugging it in, any one have any ideas as to why? Thanks. Sorry - Car is 2001 v70 2.4 (170) Auto Last edited by j-skid; Sep 30th, 2009 at 15:12. |

A loose petrol cap can trigger that message and given that the message disappeared after you filled up...
Check that the cap's seal is clean and tighten it until it clicks. |

Thank you - I will try that, although pretty sure I turned it till it clicks closed. Maybe the seal is worn - will have a look.
It's really odd. A couple of miles after filling (and after a re-start) the messages disappear. Thanks. |

The seal in the fuel cap can go bad. Last time I was at a Volvo parts desk the guy in fornt of me was buying a new cap because the cap had failed vehicle inspection. In response to my question the guy behind the parts desk said that the main seal is not available as a separate part. This is a shame because it is so easy to replace and I'd bet this is the part responsible for the majority of failures. Of course, there is also a seal in the center (check valve?) which could go bad.
If the main seal is suspected, perhaps one could remove it and clean the sealing surface in the cap and maybe lightly coat the seal with petroleum jelly (petrolatum) before reinstalling the seal in the cap. |

Could be your filler (carbon ?) canister has been FUBAR'd by over-filling.
Or perhaps the valve that admits tank vapour back into the induction system (sits on the radiator fan cowl). Perhaps even a blocked tank vent pipe. If you have a diesel, forget everything I've just said, as they don't have a volatile fume recirc' system.

Thanks for all your help people.
Okay, the next chapter in the madness that is my V70. Did a long trip to Cornwall last week. All good, emission service light on for most of the trip, but not difference to performance. Got back on Sunday parked up. Tonight, got home and went out to pick up a take-away. Started up, no emission light, but start-up was lumpy. Get 300 yds down the road and stop at a junction and it dies. Had to re-start, which was a little reluctant. Do I have the dreaded ETM??? Any other ideas? Thanks J |

Hi, I have this same problem but no engine problems at all, she runs fine.
It's been on for around 4 months. Is there a resolution for this problem yet please? My car is the V70 2001, auto, non-turbo. |
