Sorry - I have to ask about PPC
Hello,
Sorry to ask questions about a topic covered many times before, I have look first I promise. I am thinking about chipping my V70 T5. I like the idea of PPC as I can do it myself and change it back if wanted. Also living in the South West all the dealers / specialists talked about on here are nowhere near me. The question is do I go for a BSR PPC or a RICA PPC. Is there much difference as the PPC / process is EXACTLY the same from what I can see so it is just down to the 'reprogramme'. Does anyone know which is better for drivability, power etc etc. I have looked at their websites till my eyes have gone square, doesn't help. I want to know what people think that have done it (and ideally seen / driven the alternative) or people that do it. Any usefull comments?

Chip Upgrade
I had my S80 chipped with the RICA method last year. Increased power by about 20%. Feels good at 45mph and above, just squeeze the pedal and it reacts faster as well. About £600

But if he wanted MTE without traveling he'd have to get MTE-DBM (DBM = Done By Mail)

its ashame no one is willing to try the three software upgrades for power stats and drivability on a dyno and road.it would put all the ifs and buts to bed.

Don't know about all "three" software upgrades as there are at least 5 tuning options for Volvo owners, but previously, both MTE and RICA software were tested on the same car (a T5R), only 10 mins apart and the results (on boost, power and AFR) were still heavily disputed by the then RICA HQ here in the UK (eventhough a number of us were present and witnessed the results). In addition, you cannot test driveability on a dyno, it has to be in real life conditions on the road. I think you will also find that a number of owners have had at least 2 different types of software on their cars and posted their experiences with them both - I guess what I'm getting at is the "evidence" is out there but very few people are actually "listening"; so whether a back to back test of various software options would actually yield anything to put the "ifs and buts to bed" is yet to be seen, but my bets are that it won't. And that's even before considering basic things like who would fund such an "experiment" etc.

Just got back from Dons and I'm well happy to say the least. She pulls like a train and very drivable and smooth.

Has anyone had the "PPC" type of upgrade done with MTE yet? Just curious really as I already have Stage 2 on my car so not needing a remap. If it's available then that's another option to put against the RICA / BSR for you.

I've got a few friends overseas who have had the MTE "Softloader" for some time now and have seen how it works; they are very pleased with it. There are also some of Don's customers locally in the UK who have one. I believe Don keeps these in stock but if you want more detail on the product and how it works, please have a look at the following link: http://www.ipdusa.com/fi-6/ I do believe this package to be unrivalled in the level of features it offers as it is not merely a tuning package with the ability to read fault codes and reset the service light, like other "PPC" based packages.
