940 Heater Fan Problem
The heater fan was only working on setting 5 when I bought the car. So I fitted a new resister and speeds 1-4 worked as well....until last week. It seems to have blown again and thinking back, there was a burning smell entered the cabin, which was probably it burning out.
So there is obviously an underlying problem with the fan. Has anyone come across this and know what the problem & solution is?

Did you keep the original resistor?
They get quite corroded which builds up the resistance in them. Try cleaning the corrosion off and see if it works, is it for an A/C car or non A/C? I might have one non A/C resistor left in the loft. |

No, it got binned when the new one was put in. The new one I sourced from Skandex. It's non A/c. I was trying to think of why a new part would burn out so quickly.

Motor drawing too high a current? Potentially due to -
Blocked with dead leaves Water damage Short in one of the coils Worn bearings Dirty or worn carbon brushes Permanent magnet losing its strength In short, you probably need to get the motor out (a bit fiddly) and do some testing on the bench. |
