Default P1800 glass door filler strip replacement

Hi,

Checking if anyone has replaced the filler strip between the door glass and the elevator channel. Any info would be helpful.

Thanks

Do you mean you want to separate the drop glass from the bottom runner that it sits in? If so my advice would be not to do it unless there is a genuine need, as its not a nice job and you can easily damage the glass and/or the runner What is your issue that is making you want to do it?

I've only done it a couple of times and I've soaked the runner in cellulose thinners to soften the rubber and then dug away between the glass and the metal with a sharp knife, both sides, until the glass becomes moveable and then pulled it out. I believe other people have used a heat gun to soften the rubber which I have not had the guts to do, for fear it would crack the glass but in your case there is nothing to lose from trying it?

Reinstatement of the glass can be done with Polyurethane sealant/adhesive:~
This is the product used for bonding windscreens.
I've not done it on a Volvo but have on a 1954 Riley- the side windows are also held in a channel section and then compressed to secure the glass- bonding avoids the potential heart attack!
Hope it helps,
Bob.

You can polish the glass if that's a option. Glass normally polishes up well.

I think butyl tape can be used to mount the glass to the channel. Hopefully the channel isn't too rusty. Brookhouse has repros.
