Default Extra driving lights for my 940

I am going to put some extra driving lights on my 940, looking at some 6" round ones and am going to mount them above the bumper at the side of the grille. Anyone any ideas on mounting them, any pictures?

Volvo sold a bracket which fits on the bumper and can be fixed so they can be fitted along the whole length of the bumper,I have two if you need them email me on john.smith@volvoclub.org.uk and I will send you a photo.

I once fitted two Ring spotlights and 100w bulbs to my 'fun' car, that lit up country roads pretty well for a fairly small budget. I made a bracket off the bumper mountings that ran a length of metal along the underneath of the bumper to bolt them to.

If Volvo made a bracket to do similar then happy days though!

why not just uprate the in built spotlights to 100w bulbs? I did this on mine and find that when on main beam, gives plenty of light out.

If I were going to add additional lights my preference would be something integral with the grill like this 240 accessory. I don’t think Volvo made them for the 940 but it might be possible to fabricate something.

The approach I did use was just to install Nighbreaker H3s in the existing driving lights.

I fitted some driving lamps to my old 740 and used longer mounting bolts with some support spacers to mount the lamps on the grille, worked surprisingly well!

However you may want to consider either the 100A upgrade in the original driving lights or fit an HID upgrade. I recently fitted a set of 35W HID upgrades to mine in the front fog and driving lamps - like daylight now with them on!

If you want to go brighter, go for 55W HID, the 35W are the HID equivalent of 55W halogen and the 55W HID is the same as 100W halogen.

Besides keeping the main appearance of your standard, it's a lot cheaper to fit HID instead of extra lights!

I just mounted mine behind teh grill. No noticable shadowing caused by the grill and from outside no sign of any extra lights unless you look closely

Thanks for the ideas. It’s for the look of the lights more than the extra power. I’ve always liked the look of big driving lights.

I could source some stainless to make some brackets up.

One thought: if you're looking at 6" diameter lamps you'll need about 14" across the grille. Won't that affect the radiator's incoming airstream, given that the 940s have fairly wide head/driving/fog lamp assemblies?
