Default Rear head rest will not return back into position

Hi All,

My rear nearside head restraint on my V70 P2 refuses to return back into position after I took a boot load to the skip. Initially, when folding back the seat the head rest had retracted and therefore jammed into the front seat. As usual I pushed the front seat forward and pulled the head rest tag to assist the release.

Unfortunately, I may of pulled too hard and now it will not stay in its upright position. Any ideas?

Vida shows that there is a clip on the underside of the headrest, which normally unlocks then locks the headrest in either position when you have pulled on and then released the pull strap when moving the rest up or down.

You should be able to manually depress the clip by pressing on it where it locks into the frame as shown above. I think the clip is in the headrest and assume it acts little like some front headrest raise/lower or remove buttons. You should be able to feel for it through the upholstery.

If it isn't locking in the upright position, try "snapping" it sharply into position which may release a jammed clip and pull strap.

Default Head rest

Firstly, thank you for replying as the photo allows me to understand what is going on inside. I have tried your recommended technique however, I can feel and locate 2 locking tabs either side and have pushed them down but to no avail as when pushed down the head rest will not move until they have been manually released by my finger. I suspect, the tab has broken away from the release clips but thank you again. I will try your alternative method and give it a stiff shove other than that I may try to disassemble the seat but at this stage not sure where to start!

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help - my C70 rear headrests' raise/lower clips won't release through the upholstery so I have to lift the seat back through 90° to actually get to the retainer clip - my P2 V70s have a different release mechanism, other than forcing the clip via the underside of the headrest, I can't see any obvious way of releasing or re locking it.

I can't find a repair in VIDA, but it should be possible to remove the headrest without damaging it and work from there - maybe a local dealer or specialist could be persuaded to impart their wider knowledge.

I remember reading about a similar problem. I filmed once at a junkyard the inside mechanism, problem is how to remove the seat skin - may have a look at 9:00 https://youtu.be/cKdSof1UJiI My take would be to go the simpler way - replace the whole seat section with a used one

All sorted after a couple of shots of silicone spray waited a week and the headrest went back into position after some giggling with the catches.

Thanks to all who responded.
