Driving to work today, i noticed whilst driving all dashboard shut down for 2 seconds then came back ( no speedo, no backlight, mileometer, no revcounter, no fuel tank, no temp gauge, no backlight)

driving home it extinguished for good!!!!

indicators work, can hear blinking, no green dash arrow.

drove home through 30 moh zones very gingerly

Have a search for DIM faults.

Sounds like your Driver Informaton Module has gone pop.

read some of the post elsewhere, just went outside to fiddle around, and lo and behold the dash is working again since parking it in disgust 4 hours ago

might open up the carpets tomorrow and check for any frayed wires
not sure but yesterday i moved the drivers seat right forward hard with thump to fetch a dropped £1 coin - but thereagain might be nothing related

not sure whether to get rid of this 124k D5

Smile dead volvo dashboard

hi mate i had this problem with my s40.
turn on the car and press around the dash( the clear plastic covering the clocks) if the dash comes to life take out the cowling from the outer dash "about 2 screws" and screw the dash back in to place as there are no wireing on the rear just 2 multi plugs and make sure the screws r tight.

Hi Mark3evo . Dont waste your time looking for blown fuses or frayed wires . The DIM failure is known fault on S60 and V70 . Mine failed last year and the problem is caused by dry joints on the DIM PCB . Do a search for threads on the forum and you will find plenty of suggetions if you want to have a go at repairing it your self . Or you can try the following :http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/index.aspx . They are sittuated near Rochester Airport in Kent . They repaired mine for £ 172-50 compared to other companies charging £300 plus and about £800 from volvo . It takes about 15 min to remove the unit and BBA took about four days to repair mine . They give a 2yr warranty on the repair . It is still working fualtlessly . Hope it helps .

Default Dim PCB

Thank you to Model Flyer for the information given, can I ask, were is the DIM to be found in the car ?. I have electronics as a working back ground (now retired)
so PCB and pcb soldering is not a problem, depending what I am looking at these days, due to failing eye sight.

The DIM is what Volvo call the dashboard. The unit holding the speedometer etc.
