Default Time to fix the Tailgate Harness

With the early onset of colder weather, ive decided to attack the tailgate next weekend to get my rear demist working. ive read the threads relating to this process, but just wandering the best source of cable for the job. I note that the cable volvo use is extra-flexible many-strand stuff, dealer aside, can anyone advise on an alternative source?

Maybe the cental locking will come back to life too, exciting times!!

Cheers Guys

Default Cables

Go to the dealer and get the proper cables as these will last much longer and will have the correct connectors. From memory they are about £12 a side. You will need both if the cental locking is not working as this is the opposite side to the HRW.

I remember doing this job on my Torslanda a few years ago. I now have an older 240GL with the same fault.
On the Torslanda I used cable designed for a pond pump! This stuff is quite cheap, extremely flexible and, of course waterproof.......
Not being an electrician, maybe that the rating of the wire was not exact, (it was 240v stuff) that said it worked & did so for some years and still was when I sold it.

I have done my early series unit (no central locking) with a fig8 speaker cable (see below) about 5 years ago and all is still fine.

I have hinges off a c/l tailgate installed a couple of years ago and there is room to run an extra single cable either side if needed for the c/l.

I used about 1.2m of the stuff below on each side plus an extra single strand on one side, and that gave me demister, wiper, and licence plate lights and a dedicated earth wire which was terminated in the second skin section of the roof and tailgate.

I pulled the cable through without connectors, then trimmed the cables and fitted crimp connectors when it was all together.

Should be easy if you used to electrical stuff, if not and you can't borrow someone who is, maybe stick with the Volvo cables.

http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/default.php £6.86 a side. It's the right stuff (I assume) and it will save all that messing about with connectors.
