142 GT
So how hot could a standard 1960’s 142 be? Well straight from the factory a 2 litre twin SU with 118hp is the hottest however while Volvo stopped its direct involvement with motorsport in 1966 the factories’ interest in providing tuning parts improved and the arrival of the 140 series in 1966 with production in full swing by 1968 coincided with the introduction of performance kits supplied by Volvo Tuning Services. Thus it was possible to go to your friendly local Volvo dealer and order a 142GT, not a production model exactly but a basic model enhanced by one of several kits installed by the dealer. The kit included, special instruments alloy wheels, a stripe and a front spoiler and engine modifications. The GT kit with a twin choke down draft Solex carburettor and head modifications gave 128hp. Tuning kit B20Special 1 consisting of twin dual side draught Solex carburettors, modified head, extractor exhaust, special camshaft and valve lifters gave 140-145 hp. 142 Original Motor ________________________________ Copied off the net! I don't think a "standard" 60s GT was that hot. I've seen a number of them over the years. The ones I've seen had the instrument, steering wheel, centre console and very very occasionally the stripes.
I have the impression that very few were fitted with hotter cams or Solexes. The agent for the R sport stuff in the UK was TAD in London. I know that in the late 80s they still had some of the tuning parts on the shelf. I bought a hard chrome plated genuine R Sport K cam off them. They also had the R cam on the shelf and tried hard to sell me a set of manifolds and Solexes. I don't think they had stock of the "visual" bits by then. |

hmmm , well , twin SU's would be the norm if fitted from the factory , unless there is a production model homologated with twin 40's etc .
i intend to be in the same class as alfa romeo guilia/ gtv 2000 cc or 1800 cc .

The R sport kit used Solexes but it'll be easier to go with the Webers. It really depends on budget and the level of power you're shooting for. What are you actually doing? |

The car sounded great with lots of induction roar due to the camshaft, there was a short hill going up to the main road from the workshop and the car couldnt get up there normaly you had to take a run up at it due to lack of low rpm torque . However it really did fly with its 140+ Bhp . eagerly revving to 7000 + The standard B18B ( 120 ) B20B ( 140 & 123GT) ) was no slouch , in those days it would do 0-60 in 10 secs . 115+ mph The race motors were 180 - 190 bhp .. used in Marcos and other applications . I would say they were just the other side of 200 bhp these days .
