Rev counter working intermittently
Hi everybody,
I am the happy owner of a 1968 Volvo 1800S. My rev counter is working intermittently - well, most of the time it isn't at all, then it 'wakes up' all of a sudden and works for a while. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but I have noticed that it tends to start working again when I engage the OD. Any idea? Many thanks. Mauro |

Not sure what the problem is, but my rev counter was much too excitable and I've disconnected it. I've seen articles about how these units can be adjusted by drilling a small hole in the back to get to the mechanism, but I've not tried this and am more inclined to send it off to get it properly fixed. I've also heard that having electronic points and 123 distributors can affect it. If anyone knows of a good repairer then I would be interested.

repairs
A friend of mine repaired my malfunctioning one. There are a few components inside that can fail easily, considering their age.
I can ask him if he wants to do more? |

Thank you for your reply. I am not keen to drill the counter, I'd rather have it inspected by someone with experience. As for the points, my Volvo has the original points, although I am considering to replace them with electronic ones. Any advise is welcome in that sense. Cheers, Mauro |

difficulties
Well, repairing the gauge's guts isn't the problem. Getting the gauge open without marking the chrome too much is very difficult. And then the needle... Disassembling is a bitch.

Mauro;
If tach function is truly consistent with applying OD power, I have a theory but need more info...please double-check and confirm this...it could be an important clue! Additional suggested reading: http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/...s_repairs.html Good Hunting |

Hi Ron, Thank you for your precious links. Actually my rev either works or is dead. When it starts working (randomly), it gauges the rev correctly. But most of the times it 'sleeps'. Mauro |
