Default XC90 standard Sound system.

Is there any information around about the "standard" sound system in the XC90 ? Speaker placements, make etc. does it have a Subwoofer ?

Look in the online manual, the standard system is really very good and all you ever need in a car, it does not have a sub woofer but you can specify one at extra cost.
Take a test drive or sit in one at a dealer and try it out.

The standard system is 330 watts RMS with 10 speakers: a woofer and tweeter in each door and also in the top centre of the dash.

The B&W option has a 12-channel amp producing 1400 watts through 19 speakers: 3 in each door, 2 in the dash and 2 in each of the rear-most roof left and right. There is also a sub-woofer.

The standard system is really very good especially when fed from a high quality source such as Spotify in Extreme quality or FLAC encoded tracks from a USB stick.

The standard system in the new shape is way better than the 'premium hifi' I paid a grand for in the old shape, and whilst ultimately I might have specced the sub had I been able to change my specification (I deposited a car after the build had gone fixed) I am mighty glad I didn't get the opportunity to spend the £3K on the B&W.

Speakers needs running in a bit, I am now on 60 or 70 hours use of the car and use the tunes all the time. Very good base response considering it is coming out of the front doors, no vibration whatsoever of either speakers or doors / trim etc. lacks a bit of stage towards the rear, I find a lot of modern cars are set up this way, not sure why. I've filled it in a bit using the fader but ultimately the rear speakers are a bit pants.

I turn the rear speakers down. While listening to 2-channel material (as far as I have the time to do that while driving)
I find myself in the middle of the music if the rear speakers play loud.
That's the last thing that I appreciate, it's not what I hear when I listen to live music (except for the reverberating sound
of a concert hall). The only time when I find myself in the middle of the music is while playing in a concert band.

I set the fader so that the sound is biased towards the front, probably about 60:40 or 70:30.

I found the standard 10-speaker setup very good for the front of the car, but very weak in the rear. No surprise considering tthe rear doors have just a single base speaker, no midtone or tweeter.
This week I added a MAC speaker of 80mm diameter with integrated tweeter to the rear doors. It is a straight fit, the mounting fixtures are spot on, the grille just needs to be opened by removing a blanking plate and you have to connect the wiring in the right fashion to that of the base speaker. May not be the best speaker around but it is a large improvement for a modest amount of money (< 50euros a pair). Highly recommended upgrade!

Ps The rear doors do not have a grille for the tweeters (in the decorative part of the doors) as the b&w ones do. This is the reason I went to, speakers with the build-on tweeter that sit behind the grille for the midtone speakers.
