Default reverse gear crunch

I've had the clutch changed and dual mass fly wheel also, both needed doing, but still having problems getting into reverse. If i hold the stick why starting to move back it clicks it. Garage suggests it could be one of the teeeth has sheared in gearbox.
I know there is the problem with bushes wearing in older s40's, i have the 2004 model, could this be the problem in this model also?

Are you saying it wouldn't go into reverse easily before the clutch was changed or only since it was changed? If only since the garage is at fault for not resetting the gearchange linkage correctly. This is an adjustable length rod and setting this up correctly could resolve your issue. Wear in the gearbox selector fork within the gearbox could explain the failure to select gears but is unlikely to be worn in reverse gear (unless you reverse everywhere!). Sometimes reverse selection can be achieved by waiting until you come to a complete standstill, then selecting a forward gear and then reverse. You could have some slight clutch drag (newness or oil leaks?) which mean the gear train is still turning in neutral. This needs to be stopped prior to selecting reverse. Another possibility is the clutch slave cylinder needs bleeding of air in the system - try this first as it is dead easy to reach from above - you just need an assistant, new fluid, tube and jamjar. Hope that helps.

it was happening before and after new clutch. Garage said that the linkages cannot be adjusted, thats why he believes a tooth in the reverse gear may have sheared off.

dip the clutch then engage 1st gear and with the clutch still fully depressed engage reverse gear if the crunch disappears then the friction plate is sticking on the splines,if not the clutch is dragging and requires checking again.
