Default Volvo XC70 P3 Dog Guard Struts

Hi All,

I found a few existing threads about this, but information seemed to merge between P2 and P3 with the suggestion P3's were different. I have just sorted my dog guard struts for a fiver using cabinet struts as per the below...

Since owning the car, I've been really annoyed at the floppy dog guard - they came as standard on the XC70 and a nice selling point for the car. Hugely useful for both dogs, but also protecting the passenger cabin from flying luggage! Mine didn't stay up...

So investigating, the reports suggested the gas struts were proprietary and the top fixing was screw thread...I did some digging and found reports these might work....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252062721...r=550917285912

Specs are: Made by GTV. Model number PD-G60160-02. Compressed Length - 135mm, Extended Length - 183m. 80NM force.

Bought a set for buttons and found the fittings on one end screw off. Popped the bottom end off the ones in the car and unscrewed them leaving the top fitting in place (although it looks like this top fitting would just pop off as well so the person who posted about them being fixed to the guard seems to have been incorrect...).

The new ones screwed straight back on to the original top fixing and after a slight compression, the bottom slotted onto the ball joint to fit. Nice and tidy - job done!

Obviously silver instead of beige or black as original, but I don't notice.

Brill - Thanks for this, ordered those! Mine always falls down too, normally startling the children and annoying me too!

Will see if I can tackle this and the head hitting boot at the same time!

Thanks again guitarcarfanatic

This worked on my 2012 XC70 too, thanks for the tip. The body of the GTV strut is about a centimetre longer than the original Volvo strut, but it fits fine and it holds the guard up (and down) firmly.
