Question XC90 oil level sensor

Hello everyone,

I have a question which hopefully someone can answer.

I have xc90 v8 and recently I got an oil level low message on my DIM (no yellow traingle though just the message). I though it is probably a faulty sensor because the oil level was correct. I replaced the sensor (2nd hand) but the message returned. I check the connector and it seems to be giving the right voltage.

My question is: do the oil level sensor provides the information about the condition of the oil as well? The car is due for oil change.

How can I check the oil level sensor? Can I do it similar to lambda sensor? What resistances I should expect on the pins?

Thanks for your help!

Matt

I think the V8 has an oil level sensor and an oil quality sensor. If your oil picks up a lot of contaminants then the quality sensor will turn give a warning, could this be the cause? When was your oil last replaced?

The oil level sensor does 3 things: Measures oil level , Oil temperature and oil quality , the signal is digital and all 3 values go down one network signal wire .. Volvo don't always use all 3 values ...

I knew I'd read it somewhere, took me a while to find it again but here it is, perhaps oil "quality" is the issue not "quantity".

Thanks for all the replies.

According to my local dealer on V8 only oil level and temperature are used.

The error message was cured after several engine startups. I think it took about 10 cold engine startup cycles before the error message disappeared.

Btw. there was no error code stored when it was diagnosed with Volvo Dice.
