Chipped T5,s.
You have got the variable of which T5 as they have evolved from the earliest with a base 220bhp to the current and probably last in the bigger cars at 260bhp.
Depending on who you speak to you can expect a minimum 25 bhp from a simple chip. Dont forget it is the mid range torque increases, not power hikes that really get these cars to lift their skirts and go. Regards, Don. www.kalmar-union.com |

Don, you've made a typo - it's a base 225 bhp for the 850 T5.

Most of the cars listed in your original list will have a similar performance to a standard T5 engined Volvo, with the Volvo having an edge due to its decent torque and being being 'in the power zone' most of the time.
The only cars that would make the T5 look silly, are uber-saloons like the Jag XJR, Merc AMGs and BMW M-cars plus obvious things like Porsches. My current D5 S60 is even able to keep semi-exotica honest, my friend has a VX220 turbo, which the mags say should have near supercar performance, and on the way to Le Mans last year even with my S60 full of people's camping gear, he couldn't keep up on overtakes or on the motorway unless he was dropping down into 3rd or 4th gear, whereas I was just sticking in 5th and riding my wave of torque. Of course, once we got onto the twisty roads I couldn't even see which way he went. |

BHP = (Torque x RPM) / 5252.
To make more power, you either have to shift the position of peak torque, or just make more of it. The latter is predominantly what the chips do. cheers James |

the chipped t5 will hold its own against most of them.
the bmw's can be quick of the mark and can catch you off guard, even the big 540's arent no slouch, but a t5 will stick with it and should pull. |

Torque increases.
Sorry G Wagon, I was meaning that it is the very torque increases with software upgrades that get you going.
