I sent a post in a couple of weeks ago about a problem I have with full lock. My car tends to stay in the full lock position and stays in a 'dead spot' where the car will just keep going round in a circle on it's own (and skip) if I don't turn the wheel back! The Volve mechanic took it for a spin and witnessed the problem and told me that a 4-wheel alignment would fix this so I had it done. Things seemed a little better for a few days but now it's as bad as ever. Does anyone have any ideas what else this could be as I'm a bit disappointed in the guidance I was given by the garage.

Could you post a copy of the print out please and I'll compare it with mine to see if there is any obvious anomaly in the alignment?

Roy - apols I've not had a chance to scan the sheet and post it.
I've just got back from the dealership and they've rechecked it, spoken to Volvo technical and driven 3 other XC90's on the forecourt for comparison and advised that the car is fine. They have advised that when XC90's are turned to full lock it is normal for them not to re-centralise automatically i.e. staying in full lock position is the norm. The mechanic advised that this is something he'd never noticed before. If he's happy there is no danger/failure waiting to happen then that's good enough for me. However, I know I'm not going mad and I know the car never used to be like this so I'm as confused as ever. Is everyone's the same or do yours recentralise under their own steam??????? I'll await feedback to see if I am actually going insane..............thanks. |

Pete,
I think mine is the same in that on full lock it does not always go back under its own steam. I’ll check when I’m next out in it – I know that sound stupid but if it doesn’t return I’ve become so used to it I cannot really remember it now. Neil |

Yep, can confirm, same here.
It almost feels as if the wheels "fall" into that position and stay there
