S40 Suspension Springs
Having just discovered a broken front suspension spring on my S40, I'd be much obliged if someone could give me a few pointers as a cursory search has left me slightly baffled by spring colour codes etc. My VIN sticker seems to be laid out differently to examples posted on here, meaning I can't find the code that would designate the suspension type.
The car is a 2.0 Diesel, 54 plate. Anyone know a good place to get replacement springs (drawn a blank with GSF) and whether there is multiple variants for this model? Being front suspension, naturally I want to get it right! |

I think the best bet is to buy direct from a Volvo Dealer using your VIN. As far as I know the original purchaser of the car could specify different comfort options so the springs may not always be the same between two seemingly identical cars.

Yep, I've done all 4 springs in the last 6 months and resorted to the dealer to source the parts in the end.

I got mine here
http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/...Path=2_160_862 It's generally good practice to replace a pair,as even if the same part number, years of use will alter the spring rate of an old spring. |

As far as I was aware the springs are all the same, save for a few variations for models with extra weight or fancy things.
I am looking at replacing mine soon as my front drivers spring is starting to sag a little, it's not snapped but just feeling a little old and tired. I have been looking at lowering spring and they all seem generic, barr the fact they sell them for the engine size. |

Had one broken front spring but replaced both and a strut.
Developed a squeak after changing, took it back and they fixed it. They would not say "exactly" what it was but as it didn't cost I got the feeling they hadn't set something up right. whether this is relevant to volvo suspension replacing I don't know, but thought I'd mention it. I notice there is a torsion bar on these cars.
