Interior lights / trip computer
My interior lights are not working, the trip computer thing will not save any information.. Also the stereo will not remember any stations or settings.. This would obviously point to the interior light fuse but I have checked this and tested all the others and they are all fine? Any ideas?!
Not sure if this will help but when I put the interior light fuse back in there is a little 'chirp' from the engine kind of like an alarm sound, the car didn't come with a key fob and I think that the alarm is disconnected? Thanks Adam Ps Volvo v40 1.8 1997 |

When I bought a secondhand radio unit for my car, it did not seem to want to hold the set programmes, or the code, it turns out it was low voltage from the battery, I would check that first. Colin E Last edited by Colin E; Mar 2nd, 2011 at 16:22. |

Power check
Do a voltage check through you stereo cable (stereo removed with tester probes inserted into ISO lead. Determine the live wire (ignition off) and earth wire and check voltage reading does not fall below 12.5V. switch on igintion, you should still get a reading. Now do the same with the accessory lead and earth, switch on ignition and check voltage. If either of the three tests above fail to give a reading and all fuses are o.k, you may have an earth fault - The chirp from the alarm system you mentioned leads me to believe this may be the case. Unfortunately there is no quick and easy way to determine the origin of an earth fault. A good place to start is areas subject to water e.g light clusters with fog on lenses or drops of water visible. pull the boards out and check the connections. There are various earth points behind the drivers facia panels near the fuse block which you could check. All it takes is a little surface rust to impair the circuit.
