Default A useful tip for restoring faded bumpers

Here's a useful tip for restoring plastic bumpers that have faded.

I've read on the 800 forum that heating the bumpers can work, however, I've just used the following spray and the attachment below shows the results.

Tesco wheel and bumper spray. Price: £1.79 I think.

Spray it on lightly and then buff it into the surface with a soft cloth so as to ensure there's no sticky film left, especially along the rear edge where you'll keep catching your legs on it.

Time taken: about 25 minutes for front and rear, works well on door rubbing strips as well.

Looking at the front bumper it brings the top edge back to the dark grey of the lower edge that has been shaded from sunlight for the last few years.

I don't know how long it'll last but at that price it's not really too costly even if it requires a further application in a few months time.

Oh, and the red came up a treat with some Tescos colour restorer. It's about 1/2 the price of T-Cut and easily removed all the dull patches down one side and on the roof and brought the shine back.

Hi,

Peanut butter.
Peanut oil.
Liquid shoe polish - paint it on.
Heat gun - carefully applied.

This has been discussed before with the above all having good results..

Not seen the tesco restorer mentioned though. One to add to the list..

Those bumpers do look better black.

Des. . .

Glad you like the results.

Two more shots from the front end this time.

They sell a few other products as well - worth a look.

Because it is a totally neutral colour it can't rub off on your trouser legs.

Also, providing you buff it into any cracks or creases it doesn't leave a dust gathering film.

And as regards the results, simply check the pics. I've checked the trim today, no smears and no fading so all bodes well for the future.

Thumbs up for Tescos!

Autoglym Bumper care gel has always worked for me, you need to build it up over time though, one coat will only last a couple of months.

Although for £1.79 you cant go far wrong with the tesco stuff. Their Value car shampoo is very good too, we used to use it on the home delivery vans when i worked there, used to bring them up a treat gave a good shine too.
