Default Regrets!

or: cars I have owned and left to turn into a pile of rust.
I'll start off with this one of which I had a similar model, reverse gear stopped working so I left it in a field! I had 10 mates riding in it more than once!

I had a Humbre Sceptre, if we could have kept all our cars we'd be loaded!

Just been looking at the Jag XK140 on the Sussex Sports Car website. I swear I saw one of those last weekend, somewhere on the motorway between Glasgow and Carlisle. It certainly had the XK120/XK140 look at the front end, and it was a fixed-head, not a drop-head, but the tail didn't look quite as elongated as the one in the photos - although I only got a fleeting glimpse of it.

My dad restored a humber sceptre that some drunk idiot wrote off outside our house. When the guy from the insurance came round he looked at the car put down his clipboard and just said how much do you want . He replaced that with a hunter gls with a tuned holbay engine rolling on slotmags it was absolutely mint inside and out.

Cars of my own I had a 206 gti that someone had bodged the hydraulic clutch pipe in with putty :0. That failed on the way home and I never got on with that car since then

It was actually bright red, the picture is crap, but it had 49,000 miles it and it was concourse condition. Kept for a year and then given an offer I should have refused. Hindsight would have been to put in a garage and forget about it for a few years

My uncle bought a 3-year old Ford Escort RS1800 in 1980 and killed it rallying, it was scrapped sometime in the mid to late 80s when it was comprehensively shagged. For those not in the know, the RS1800 was a rally homologation special and only 109 road-going versions were built. If he'd locked it in a garage instead, they're worth £40k in mint condition now.

If he took out the bda and left it in the corner of the garrage he would have got a few grand for that on its own even if it was rallied.

Not quite as rare as the MK1 Escort RS1300 then only 5 ever made, a bloke i know owns 1 of them and has built an exact replica that he uses regularly.

He was offered £300k for the genuine one and turned it down, told the bloke to come back when he was prepared to offer in excess off £1 million.

My biggest regret, selling my Escort Cosworth, it had only done 24k genuine Rouse 500 conversion, should have hidden that one away.
