That was posted late last year and the advert promptly disappeared and said sold. At that price it seems a complete steal and as you rightly point out it appears the owner isn't really aware of what he has.

If only it was closer!

Hi All,

Spoke to the seller and he says it needs quite a bit of welding, he
has sent photo's and can see why the previous purchaser never
came back! rear wheel arch scrapped, front arches bubbling and
the sill has a big chunk missing from it at the rear, dread to think
what its like underneath!

Bit of a risk I bet especially as its in the middle of nowhere and cant
see it! Shame as its the second one in Scotland recently but just a
little too far to go, nearly 300 miles.

Always the case!

Tried to load the photo's but no luck, will try again.

Well Gentleman

I have taken a leap of faith, I have now secured this vehicle, not any giving
on the price even though I mentioned the cost of transport, apparently they
had others who were coming to view in the morning.... so with a bit of
deliberation I thought what the heck! you only live once.

I have had a few quotes for the collection, and yes its via shipley.com, but still
coming up expensive, if anyone knows anyone who will be able to quote me a
reasonable amount then it would be appreciated.

I still for the life of me cannot upload the photo's on this site... nightmare so I
have got a link for you to have a look, it needs some sill work, if anyone has
any please let me know.

Will probably be on regular now and getting tips and feedback, so your help
would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nice one. Hope It's not as crusty as my 280 was.
Many hours welding here.
Early cars are better looking imo.
Good luck and pics!

Thanks Darkslider,

It was a risk, but I am sure if i decide its too much work I wont be losing too much, but my intentions are to take it to a certain level of standard, and drive it, not one of these who takes it to concourse and then never drive it!
I know it may not be someones cup of tea, but I only bought it as my late father had one and it was our childhood car, plus the first car I drove when I passed my test!

If its been stored as they have said in a garage then I am sure it wont be too bad, will just have to wait and see.

keep you all posted.

Well done on buying it!

What prices are you getting quotes for transport? There are firms advertising on ebay that seem quite competitive.

Don't judge it on rear arches, they almost all need those replaced. Ditto the seam immediately below the tailgate. I have a feeling that car won't be too bad.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to come over and have a look when you have it back home.

Cheers

John

Hi John

Thanks for your comments, you are more than welcome to come and view
anytime, your about 40 mins away so not too far, ironically the car came from
Huddersfield, Olag Olsen, with a bit of research I believe they closed down circa 1984.

we will just have to see when it gets here, I am hoping there is no major surgery!
but that's the risk I have taken.

Re the transport, so far £285 is the cheapest, £312 the dearest.I wouldn't mind going
myself but its the time more than anything, I have a few friends who buy cars from
Scotland, mainly Glasgow but its a matter of either getting the car there or to at least
Perth. if i get it there as there is a trailer full its only £110, will wait and see.

hopefully look forward to seeing you soon, give me a couple of weeks.

Thanks

Ill come along with John too to look. We were trying to encourage various people to buy this car (we sadly have no room or time for more volvos!) but failed. Glad its found a loving home though!

Im all for a car to be used everyday and for all purposes. My GLT is my 25k mile per year daily driver but it still gets looked after and gets comments wherever it goes Just please if theres any welding to be done, please have them cut the old rust out first, even if it isnt a top class welding job. Itll save you money in the long run.

Interestingly, my car also came from Olaf Olsens when it was new. I still have the salesmans business card from when my grandad bought it new!

I have a reproduction dealer sticker if you wanted one

Steve
