Towing with a S60 geartronic
Anyone found any issues? I'll be towing my racecar, so will be up to the 1600kgs.
Thanks |

Pretty much "point and squirt" !
My R was used by its previous owner to tow a 'van around the 1500kg mark, he fitted the Volvo Auxiliary gearbox cooler to try and keep temps in check. Its not a geartronic though. Only driven a Geartronic once (XC70 D5) but I'd just leave it in D and let it handle itself. If it starts changing up and down a lot when it would do better holding 1 gear just hop across to the "manual" mode and pick a gear for it. At 1600KG you'll probably want to drop a gear early for hills so you don't run out of momentum before it changes gear. |

I can't comment on an S60, but my XC70 Geartronic is a superb towcar.
I have owned it for 6 years and have towed a Bailey Pageant (1350Kg) all over Europe with it without any problems. It has never shown any signs of overheating, even when climbing long hills in the Alps. I use the manual mode when descending steep hills but otherwise just leave it in D and let the box decide when to change gear.

i own a s80 t6 geartronic which i tow a Baileys Pageant with. The power is fine but it does sometimes need help on short steep hills where i tend to use the manual option to maintain the torque as the auto is a bit slow in recognising the steepness. No issues on heat build up, even after towing through the welsh mountains on windy, hilly roads.
