Volvo 740 Turbo - Gearbox Troubles but Tax+MOT
Had to make a painful decision, and that is to now sell/scrap the Volvo 740 i've spent the last few months sorting out. I have a house move pending so I need one that I can use daily - it pains me to let it go.
Loads of photos on the project thread located here; http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=174027 Volvo 740 Turbo 1990 G Registered, 184K Miles, some service history. B230FT Engine. Bought from a member on here as a spares/repair car (no tax/MOT), replaced various components to get it roadworthy. Good Points; Ran well before gearbox started playing up Turbo pulls well (halfway up turbo gauge on WOT) Doesn't dribble anything on the floor (no leaks to mention) Replacement radiator and coolant, New Inlet manifold gasket and New Thermostat 500 miles/2 months ago Oil change 300 miles/1 month ago Replacement rack fitted 1000 miles/3 months ago New Spark Plugs/Ignition Leads/Dizzy Cap 30 miles ago (last week)! All electrics work (drivers seat, sunroof, CRUISE CONTROL!) Lengthy MOT until June 25 2014 - Tax until 30 November. Half tank of fuel 4 Keys! Bad points; - Gearbox is playing up. Still drives but anything more than gentle, then it will judder and slip. Seems fine in fourth when cruising. - Bodywork has a few marks, and one dent in the back quarter. - Brakes are good, but they squeak a bit when it gets warm. - Aerial doesn't rise or fall. Radio isn't great either but works - one speaker is out. - Fuel gauge pessimistic. Either it works or it sits just above red. Obviously its 23, so expect a few other blemishes, squeaks and rattles. Car can currently be driven, however with the bad gearbox I don't recommend it is driven far. I've probably put best part of a grand in this car, but obviously its not worth anything near that. I don't want it to go for peanuts - so i'll sell it complete as is for £400. If there's no interest, I'll break it myself and scrap the shell. EDIT: now fixed

Gutted for you having to sell up and not being able to see your project completed
Unfortunately, I haven't got a pot to p1ss in, and already have 6 Volvos of various shapes and sizes to keep me busy/poor! However... I've never seen a NINE door 700 series... Or any Volvo come to think of it!! LOL Seriously though, good luck with the sale. Steve

Indeed, there was no such car as a 749, unless I did some serious welding.
Had a little interest but nothing serious yet. Will start breaking soon (possibly tomorrow depending on a response from a 940 local to me) - separate thread will be available for a breaking. Another option - Manual conversion...?

Box
Is it worth changing the box fluid and making sure the level is right just in case? And getting a price from a local box specialist to swap the box - I'd ahve expected about £300 to do the swap plus the cost of a box and surely there are boxes on here...

No bites?
I've had an offer of a donor car which is manual, but I'm not sure I can spare the time to do the conversion... Ill give it to the end of the week, then ill cash the tax in and start breaking it, if I don't go for the manual swap.

Go for the manual swap if you can find the time.
Much better to drive and take advantage if all those horses under the hood!! Steve

Car no longer for sale. Decided to go ahead with the manual conversion. Now to get those parts!
