Default Help! Nivomat replacements needed! Arggh

Hi everyone, the dreaded rear Nivomats are buggared on my 1998 V70R.

I'd be really appreciative of any advice, links or help sourcing some replacements.

My front springs are also corroded and really need replacing.

My car is in very good condition and one of the better ones on the road so I'm keen to keep her going.

The valve stem seals are also in need of replacing but the priority is the Nivomats.

Thank you in advance, you guys are always so blooming helpful!

The used Nivomats in the US look great and if shipping is possible would probably be the best option.

It may also be worth contacting this company as they do a conversion from Nivomat to standard for much of the Volvo range.

They may also do front springs but I haven't checked.

Question Aargh! Nivomat replacement!

Can anyone tell me if a phase 2 Nivomat will fit a 1998 phase 1 V70R?

Or does anyone have a pair of good Nivomats that they want to sell that will fit my phase 1 V70R?

....or do I go for the standard full spring and shock replacement using PFS or similar?

Questions, questions!

I'm always a bit hesitant about getting used Nivomats unless they're from someone I trust. They go for decent money, but they can still fail 1, 2 or 3 months down the line, after which you're back at square one

Personally, I'd think I'd go for a good quality brand new non-nivomat replacement set - maybe Eibach/H&R springs* with Bilstein dampers.

*Having said that, I fitted lowered Kilen springs to a 940 estate (with Bilstein dampers) and they were great. This is a link to 850 Kilen springs https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fits-Volv...IAAOSwuJpc3GMI Not sure if they'd fit your V70R though - but there is an online Kilen catalogue that you can check. Kilen are owned by Lesjofors btw

Thumbs up FRF Volvo Swansea to the rescue again.

I bit the bullet and went to the best option in Europe, FRF Volvo of Swansea. For £660 plus another £40 from an 850R owner on eBay I’m now sorted for the rear of the car. Hopefully no more expenditure for a little while!

Will refurb the rear suspension while I’m replacing them then the V70R is fully sorted for its drive train and all I need are a couple of bits of plastic trim and I have a finished project.

I've mentioned in previous posts and stressed this in the 'P80 850 V70 S70 C70 Killers & Std. Faults' thread... grab these whilst you can. And look after the bellows.

Hence I've stashed new sets of these back when they were being given away. Where you followed my words, you're OK. That ship has now sailed. I love Nivomats, but at £700 odd, unless you carry weight or have one of the go-faster variants, I'm not sure I'd pay what these currently fetch.

The conversion will do for most of us, and the Monroe kit used to be £250. Now they want £800?

I paid £300 odd for a stash that at current prices, because I do carry weight, I'd be forced to pay nearer £2000.

That's just mad.

If you run a post 2000 car, (no they won't fit a P80) they're still fairly cheap. Grab 'em now. That ship sails soon.
