1979/80 245 GLT photos needed
Hi
I'm looking for photos of the 1979/80 245 GLT V6 [not the 265]. Can anybody help with that? This model had the large bumpers and the old 145 style rear lamps. I can only find this tiny photo, but there must be more and better ones out there! http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en...9,r:1,s:0,i:73 Thanks John |

I thought only the 244 GLT was available in 80/81. Are you sure Volvo also did a Station with this PRV engine.??

I've looked in Bjorn-Eric Lindh's book and there are a couple of images in there (pp179, 181, 183, 184 and 186) showing both saloon and estate models; the salons get bigger images but the estate is shown.
I'll upload them in the next couple of days (once I've uncovered the scanner).

I have never seen one, but I do feel confident to say the car existed, albeit probably produced in very small numbers. I have seen a 245GLT6 brochure for sale on ebay, and I have seen the model listed on parts databases. It was not sold in all markets. This translated Swedish guide refers to the car in the 1980 model year (produced from late 1979). According to this info, at the time of launch for MY1980, the GLT estate was only available with the V6 engine; no 4-cylinder estate model at that time. "1980 Appearance-rate changes are mirrors, which now are rectangular and made of black plastic. New badge on the tailgate and the pages are glued rather than inserted into the holes as before. The front fenders are now just a little "Volvo" emblem instead of the previous example. 244 GL 2.1. All models except the DL and diesel has a front spoiler similar to that from -81 onwards. Now the B21A engine in the DL and GL 102 hp thanks to the fan is changed to a slip clutch. 242 GT was last manufactured and was replaced by 244 GLT, also with the B23E 140 bhp. It was only available with a manual gearbox over. All moldings and bumpers were matt black and it was equipped with matching aluminum rims, the GT, gas shock absorbers, thicker anti-roll bars front and slightly lower springs. Inside were tachometer, headrest cushions up and gearshift in leather. You could also get his GLT with V6 ai model GLT6, 260-B27E engine at 141 hp. V6 could be combined with either manual transmission or automatic. GLT6 was standard with power steering. B23E was the "sporty" option while B27E it was "comfortable" option, according to Volvo. GLT: n was also the 245, it was only available with the V6. GLE model ceases and is replaced by GLT. 242 DL goes on sale in Sweden again. Take 260: n (or 240's) equipped with Electric windows controlled to them now from the keys in the doors, not as before with buttons in the center console. Changed plastic panels in the cockpit around the rear small side windows. Central is now available as an option and is standard in 264 grade." http://translate.google.co.uk/transl...ed=0CF0Q7gEwAQ Thanks in advance for the photos loki ! John |

John,
After reading the text in Mr. Lindh's book, it appears that the V6-powered GLT had a standard 244/245 front end which presumably means one like young Steve's Thor. The images are, unfortunately, of the proper 260 series machines rather than the 240V6 I thought they were. Loki

79/80 had the rectangular headlights as fitted to the very early 264/5's but with 'flat hood' same as the special edition 'Thor' model. The GLT6 estate I saw in a local scrapyard many moons ago was of this type, with big bumpers of course and yes it had the early 145 type rear lights.
These were a brief interlude between the square headlights and the full 81< facelift and coincided with the shortlived GLT 6 model. |
