Default Angle gear and gearbox oil change

Has anyone used an oil extractor to suck the oil out of the auto box and/or angle gear? Have one and was wondering if it would make the job easier. Planning on changing the angle gear oil tomorrow (I've a whine going on and hoping its just the angle gear oil is low and old) and doing a few sump dumps from the box over the next while.

It's about the only way to change the oil in the transfer box but it's no use on the autobox, it won't do any more than a sump drain. Have a search on here for "gibbons method" this is the best way of changing the gearbox fluid.

I took out the fill nut on the angle gear earlier and oil spilled out, are these not meant to be filled to the nut then a bit drained?

Have one of these but its a bit big and awkward to try from underneath, is there a path from above to get down at it if I extend the hose?

Got about 100ml out with one of these before giving up.

On the gearbox, is there a dipstick on the geartronic box? I cant find it. I had the non geartronic on on the S80 and it had a dipstick. Theres a little rubber tube about an inch long with a yellow cap on . Thats all I can see.

I oil changed my front bevel gear, rear diff and haldex over the weekend. I used the cheap silver line monster syringe units, only a fiver each, one for sacking dirty oil and one for clean. I have several sizes of pipe but found the small semi rigid pipe works best. You do need to keep the pipe length short otherwise it won't such thick gear oil. I got loads of oil out of mine and to my surprise al three had clean oil! At 225k I assume they were done before....

Is this any good for the above job? Or any other job for XC90.
Saw for £12 in LIDL today.

I used a hydroponic syringe to change the rear diff and angle gear (£2 on eBay)

Did you do the haldex filter? Mine was pretty dirty when I changed it.

No I had one but decided against dropping the prop in the drive.
Nex time it goes to the garage I'll get them to change it and also clean the pump gauze.
