If you have a decent laptop - by far the best option is to get a VIDA/DICE set-up. The interface is about £80 to £100 on ebay and the software is downloaded. It can be tricky to set up but it's the only system that will read all codes from all modules and also contains a lot of diagrams, documentation and troubleshooting processes. You can also adjust various parameters - such as the temperature of the heated seats! It works for all Volvo cars too.

There are a good few threads on setting it up if you search.

If you have an Android tablet you can be up and running with Torque for less than a tenner - but it will only read basic engine codes and some sensor data. Still very useful tho.

You could have loaded VIDA/DICE from a USB flash drive easily enough, and a LOT faster than from DVD...

I dis it a few months ago on my Samsung Ultrabook.

Looks like it's a right pain in the arse, I've got an ultrabook on Windows 8 home edition with 4gb ram, I also have my home pc on Windows 7 pro but now way of connecting it to the car. I have a copy of Windows 7 pro which I could install on the laptop when I get my external CD drive theough... I hate Windows 8 it's the worst edition yet, it's my wifes laptop I'd need to talk her round to putting Windows 7 on it.

Will the Vida work on Windows 8 home?
