Dice
Dear all, I'm looking to get Vida running for my V70 p2. I'd like to use member Cheshire5, but it looks like he's 'off air'. I hope he's OK.
I see various ODB to USB leads on offer around the web, from 5 to 35 quid. I wonder if anyone can comment on whether these leads would work please? I have some understanding of electronics and I.T. , and built the simple 940 diagnostics box, but I appreciate that the above query is not be such a simple matter! I have an Autel 629 OBD scanner, for my Honda, but realise that VIDA is the way to go etc...

well some people have reported problems with getting it to work but I found this link and on a windows 10 laptop (no vmware) it works fine for me
https://docs.google.com/document/d/e...i3cpHBdsZa/pub you'd need an understading of torrenting to install the software (links at bottom) then just follow the very specific step by step instructions to the letter all of that is free so no loss whatsoever to try it (and at least use it as a parts catalouge etc using your VIN no) the bit that costs money is the VCX nano device (make sure it's the volvo one) such as this (i think but double check and read all the details throughly) I didn't use the disc that came with the device because it was totally useless Last edited by stuart bowes; Feb 21st, 2022 at 10:21. |

It's getting better?
I'm remembering the days (early nineties) when the web wasn't so big, and, with enough time, you could find what you wanted, if it existed, rather than these days trying to work out which results from google to ignore. Meaning, with very little work, I came across this site, which seems very informative:
https://vvde.info/wp/2021/06/16/what...y-fault-codes/ There are a fair number of useful pages. I'm thinking of buying VIDA2GO, with Mongoose Pro lead. It's the pre configured software on an SSD that appeals. (I also see on the web Chinese copies of the mongoose lead, with bad reports). For what it's worth, from the above site: Technically any J2534 passthrough cable should work with Vida 2014D . Popular choices are of course DiCE , VxDiag (VCXNano) and Mongoose pro. For most people they will all do the same job for you in Vida 2014D...

well there's a few different solutions to choose from then
personally I had issues with the windows 7 route because a) it's nigh on impossible to find a laptop with win7 that still works and is powerful enough to not be a total annoyance taking 2 weeks to load up (my windows 10 laptop takes literally about 5 seconds) and b) the VMware option may well work but it just adds a layer of possible error and again runs that bit slower, besides which you have to download the OS and buy a key for it etc etc eurgh I spend all my life using computers for various different things so when they run slow I get extremely impatient lol it's probably my issue to deal with but there we go |

Specs..
It's a Core i5, 270 Mhz, with 8Gb RAM. The existing OS is win 7 pro, 64 Bit, with a 200 Gb SSD, but I'll be booting in to the image on the supplied SSD, which I think is Windows 10. I have some other laptops around, including some little Netbooks. It'll be interesting to see how these fair, and, if tolerable, maybe use one for portability? I've not needed or wanted a newer version of Windows in my life, but there you go!

[QUOTE=arctan;2809928]I've not needed or wanted a newer version of Windows in my life/QUOTE]
I felt the same for a long time and windows 7 felt like it didn't need fixing. windows 8 and 8.1 were so terrible I didn't want to take a massive step backwards. I assumed 10 would be more of the same so I was really late to the party but then I got a new laptop and was forced to admit 10 is miles ahead of 7 in just so many little ways too numerous to mention. 11 is out now but I'm sticking with 10 because everything's set up.. that took me long enough to tweak desktop and laptop to exactly how I wanted them, networked, remote desktop etc, all the software installed.. |
