Help! What DOT brake fluid for my 360?
Hi
I have a 360 GLT injection and it is in need of more brake fluid. I noticed an old thread saying that brake fluid vanishes and it certainly does. However I have foolishly mislaid my owners manual and threw out the last (empty) bottle of brake fluid and now need some more. I think it's DOT4 but am I right and how much difference would it make if I used the wrong one.... I would be really grateful for some information thanks |

Hi,
It is most likely that Dot4 has been used on your system.. I douubt that Dot5 would have been used.. However, something to consider is: when was the last time the brake fluid was changed? If 2 years or more you should be considering a flush/bleed of the brake system anyway. This would be an ideal time to top up on fluid and have the right type.. Also, if you are loosing brake fluid to this degree (requiring a top-up) then where is the fluid leaking from?? This would also be something to consider and rectify... Des. . .

Agreed with Des, in both the fact it probably needs a flush (has it been done in the last 2 years?) and the fact that 300's really don't loose fluid, my 1.4 I never had to top up even between changes, and the one time I had to top up my 1.7 I found one of the rear cylinders leaking.
Just remember that the usual suspects for leaking do so onto your linings/pads, reducing braking efficiency even more!

Thank you for your help. It's really appreciated as I do want the dear old car to keep going as well as possible.
So I will get the brake system flushed and get the cylinders checked. I think a rear cylinder used to leak but thought it had been fixed. Perhaps not... so thanks again. |
