Indepant for Hornsea Area
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a decent independent for servicing an 08 S80 in the Hornsea area. Note to mods: if this is in the wrong place, apologies and could you move it? Dave |

I see you are from Aberdeenshire - do you mean Hornsea in East Yorkshire?
Personally, I've always found the local main dealers to offer good service and value, and in many cases, their prices have matched or beaten local independent Volvo "specialists" in Hull and York, despite those garages claiming to be competitively priced. Plus, I know I'm getting genuine parts. From my own experience with a couple of cars and one of my father's cars, I can recommend Ray Chapman of Malton and also Riverside of Hull.

Correct I do live in Aberdeenshire but am originally from Yorkshire so I know exactly where Hornsea is.
Your comment is interesting about main dealers as most people tend to go to independents especially when the cars are getting a bit older. I will have a look at Ray Chapman and Riverside - thank you for those two. Dave |

I never doubted your geographical prowess - just wanted to check it was the same Hornsea I was thinking of!
I'm comparing them to self-declared independent "Volvo Specialists" - I'm fairly sure that run-of-the-mill non-specialist garages would be cheaper than main dealers. Ray Chapman, for example, do advertise on their website that they offer lower cost servicing for older Volvos, and their staff are friendly, aswell as being transparent & realistic with labour costs etc. They don't do discount on parts routinely, but I recently got 35% off a set of new wheeltrims after mentioning I could get them cheaper from the USA! They still have a few time-served mechanics who remember working on 850s when they were brand new, and the engine in my car has existed in one form or another up until quite recently, so I have confidence in their competence. I read a lot of horror stories on here and elsewhere about main dealers, but these seem to be the execption!
