Default day 1, 1st fault :( SRS AIR BAG LIGHT

Hi all, i bought a 2007 S40 yesterday, drove it 60 miles home and i love it!
went out to it this morning, started up and ive got SRS AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT on the display....

im really not up to scratch with modern car electrics :/ having come from a Series 3 land rover!

any ideas where to start will be very much appreciated? :/
Thanks Ben

If it's come out of the blue and you've done nothing to the car, I would check your battery and alternator output first with a multimeter.
Spurious warnings can be caused by low system voltage.
If that all checks out, you'll need a code read using a reader that can interrogate SRS modules.

Yeah seems out the blue. Having looked around of the Web. .. I wonder if me pushing the seat all the way back may have caused the issue. ... will any of the cheap code readers be able to reset it.

In my experience, cheap obd code readers dont work on the S40.

I have one and it doesnt work with my 2005 s40 but works fine with other cars

Cheap obd readers work on the s40 sometimes, but they won't let you reset the airbag light.

You need dice/vida.

From personal experience.

I got my dice/vida off eBay - it was about £70 and works on a laptop that has windows xp professional on it.

If I was local I'd clear your codes for you

You can also see if a local garage would be willing to do it for free to gain your custom like my local dealer does

Do you need a subscription for that to work ?

I've used the snap on ethos lots before but wasn't aware of the vida / dice
