laptop + lead (usb to odb)
FTDI drivers

then buy a licence/copy of "VOL-FCR"
you can download a trial version to see if it covers your motor and what it will/wont do.

and which/what it will do

Nothing to do with VADIS. Check the links and read through, or search on Google "VOL-FCR"

If you decide to get the USB OBD2 cable and want to try "VOL-FCR", sent me a pm.... as I may have a suggestion or two

spot on that man

VOL-FCR is a totally sep program

Vadis Could be used, but the price of a vct2000 is Way high ,and getting one that is 100% working,, its easier to get fresh rocking horse droppings,,,

Vol-Fcr is a stand alone program, the links will tell you what systems it will talk to on your car..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-K-CAN-...item2ebd8dcea0

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-cable-...item416358bd83

would be the type of usb /obd lead to get,

fdti drivers,, drop me a pm i can email them to you

Have you got an android phone? Get the torque app and bluetooth ecu adapter. 10quid for both and it does everything including clear/read codes and datalogging timing etc. Best app ever made imo.

err no not really it doesnt

will Not talk to any "volvo" system, only has Limited engine code reset ability,
will not reset a "perm" fault, gives Generic only "obd" codes,, which can and do mislead you when you try to relate them to Volvo ones.

i agree torque is a Great app, and as it runs on the phone you already have the £15ish for the adapter + £3ish for the app is a good price.

but it will NOT do as much as VOL-FCR , it will not talk to any volvo specific system

i have both vol-fcr + torque,, and a Fair few other brands sw for pc/laptop use with there own leads,, ultimatly for MY phase 2 it will be a dice unit with vida to do The lot.
P1 1998 , isnt vida/dice compatible, but it is vol-fcr/£5 lead compatible,,

So can I get this clear:
I need to buy a cable, software and I will be able to do diagnostics myself? Never thought of that...Thanks.
There is one guy in Bristol who charge 15pounds for that...
