2012 XC70 Brake pads with 3M sticker
Hi, does anybody know which pad goes in which side of the caliper?
One pad says W on it, and one with a BJ on it has a 3M sticker on it. I assumed the 3M sticker one goes on the outside and the other against the piston, but then when I took the old ones out, they had been mounted by previous owner/mechanic the other way, so now unsure. The pads came with instructions, but know mention of orientation, and no mention in Vida or any other online thing I have found. Any comments welcome 👍 Last edited by Wulfril747; Jun 27th, 2021 at 00:44. |

Are you sure they’re the right pads?
I’m assuming its front pads that you’re referring to? If so, the one that goes against the piston has a clip on it (the pad clips into the piston). The one without the clip goes on the outside. That’s based on a V70. I can’t see the XC70 being any different, but it could be.

Sorry, should have said, they are rear pads, both same shape, identical apart from the marking and the sticky pad on one.
Since posting, I have seen elsewhere, some front pads for different Volvo, one had the clip you speak of that goes in the piston, and one had a 3M pad like mine, so that shows sticky goes outside. I have also seen a similar post to mine elsewhere, nobody had answered it, but the OP updated saying he had spoken to a Volvo tech, and was told the sticky pad goes outside. So I have installed mine that way, and all seems well, stops, no funny noises or squealing, must be right 😁 Thanks for your answer though, it may help someone else in the future 👍 |
